There are three measures to prevent goat dystocia

1. Prevent early mating of ewes

ewes feeding

From a physiological point of view, ewes generally reach sexual maturity at the age of 5 to 6 months, and have the ability to reproduce, and the first estrus occurs, but at this time the body of the ewes is not yet mature. Therefore, for goats, the first mating time of the ewe should be selected when the sheep has reached maturity, so that not only will not affect the health of the ewe, but also a strong young sheep can be obtained.

2. Adhere to the principle of correct body shape selection

About 50% of the dystocia cases are related to the fetus being too large, most of which are related to the use of large-sized rams, especially when the ewes are immature, the ligand large rams have a higher incidence of dystocia . Therefore, the correct one-piece selection principle should be adhered to. The correct body type selection principle should be: big match big, big match medium, medium match small, never big match small. The result of matching the big with the small often leads to an oversized fetus and increases the incidence of dystocia. The consequences for premature mating are more serious.

3. Do a good job of feeding and management during pregnancy

Goat dystocia and malnutrition during pregnancy are also one of the causes of dystocia. Excessive obesity or malnutrition of ewes during pregnancy can lead to insufficient productivity and induce dystocia. At the same time, exercise is indispensable to pregnant ewes, and quite a few dystocia ewes are related to lack of exercise during pregnancy. Insufficient exercise of pregnant sheep may induce an incorrect fetal position, as well as insufficient productivity, both of which are direct causes of dystocia. For ewes, proper exercise must be appropriate and moderate. Generally 2 hours a day is appropriate.
